This is the introductory course for the Multimedia Academy. This course will offer a broad view of digital literacy, the principles of art and design, animation, graphics and website development. Students will be industry standard software; such as Adobe Photoshop, Animate CC, Adobe After Effects and Web design tools. Wix will be used to lay the foundation for student digital portfolios.

 

Students will develop the basic skills used in many media industries, and will go on learning journeys to understand more about careers in the media arts industry and where their passions are. Many digital and traditional artists works will be studied as students begin to embrace their own style of creativity. Pop art culture, Surrealism and the Harlem Renaissance as well as animations from around the world will be explored.

 

Students will learn basic introductory skills related to Multimedia Academy Video Production with lessons in Premiere Pro CC and After Effects.

This course provides a hands-on introduction to digital video production, broadcasting and storytelling. Students learn about the three phases of Production: pre-production and planning, executing and managing a video shoot, and post-production. Students will have access to (and be responsible for) various professional hardware devices and industry-standard software. Students will be assessed by both individual and team projects. Final projects must demonstrate an understanding of marketing concepts, including the use of social media for promotion.

A focus on teamwork, soft skills, and career development is the other major focus of this class. Students learn to be efficient and effective with time and respectful of others’ opinions and abilities, as well as equitable with the distribution of work. Various guests, field trips, and other work-based learning opportunities are available to inspire students and put them on a path towards internships or other work opportunities that align with their interests and skills.

This course is the capstone course of the Multimedia Academy. This course is designed as a digital media production and digital storytelling program. It places an emphasis on using historical and new social media broadcasting methods to inform, educate, and inspire the school community. Students will develop their own methods and production techniques in order to convey messages and meanings reflective of cultural and social issues related to their current time period, culture and community. 

Students will create and curate their individual professional media portfolios. Moreover, students will study the key elements and techniques using industry standard software  to script, produce, and publish their video productions.

 

At the completion of this capstone students will have developed the necessary technical, workplace and  personal skills to be college and career ready.
